Captive baby Galápagos tortoises
A group of baby tortoises ready to be measured and weighted. The program waits until they reach a certain size and weight and then transfer them to a more natural environment before transporting them to their island of origin. There is some discussion regarding their scientific name, scientists refer to them as Geochelone elephantopus or Geochelone nigra. Most of them agree that in the islands where they are still alive the tortoises are subspecies of a common ancestor.

Itt él a galápagosi medvefóka (Arctocephalus galapagoensis). További madárkülönlegessége a kéklábú szula (Sula nebouxii), de itt fészkelnek a galápagosi albatroszok (Phoebastria irrorata) és igazi különlegességek a galápagosi pingvinek (Spheniscus mendiculus). A szigetek körüli vízben egyebek közt tengeri leguánok (Amblyrhynchus cristatus), a szárazon pedig varacskosfeju leguánok (Conolophus subcristatus) élnek.
