(magyarul lásd lent). These amateur shots were taken on Mauritius in January 2005. Photo and video list: Mangrove swamp opposite to Ile aux Aigrettes Island, near Mahebourg. Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophoraceae. Another mangrove species lives on the island; the Brughiera gymnorhiza. On the videos small trees of Thespesia populnea, Malvaceae can be seen, which is not indigenous to the island, but has proliferated on the salty shallow waters. Ile aux Aigrettes islet. Gastonia mauritiana, Araliaceae, juvenile specimen. Photo: Dodo reconstruction. The now-extinct Dodo bird lived near the seashore and in ebony forests like they want to reconstruct on this island. Pandanus vandermeerschii Cassine orientalis Turraea casimaniana Juvenile Latania loddigesii. This specimen really has bluish color. Lomatophyllum tormentorii. Columba mayeri, Columbidae pink dove sits on an oxwood branch (Gastonia mauritiana). Only about 10 specimens of this dove remained in natural circumstances, but now 75 or more live on this islet and further about 300 in all of Mauritius. We can read about it in Gerald Durrel's book. Rather a delightful read, mainly the part about trapping. Has been observed that the birds "became drowsy" after eating Stillingia (Euphorbiaceae) berries, so juice of the plant could be slightly toxic. At one time this dove was prevalent on Mauritius.
